Moulding
Moulding in custom framing refers to the material that makes up the outer edge of a frame. It is the structural and decorative component that surrounds and protects the artwork, photograph, or object being framed. Moulding comes in a variety of materials, finishes, colors, and profiles, allowing for endless customization to match different styles and aesthetics. The choice of moulding plays a crucial role in the overall look and feel of a framed piece, whether it's sleek and modern, classic and ornate, or rustic and natural. It also provides durability and support, ensuring that the framed item is both visually appealing and well-protected over time.
Matting
Matting refers to the decorative and protective border placed between the artwork and the frame. It serves both an aesthetic and functional purpose—enhancing the presentation while creating space to prevent direct contact between the glass and the artwork.
Types of Matting
Flat Float Mount – Artwork is mounted flush to a backing board with edges fully visible, offering a clean, modern look.
Raised Float Mount – Artwork is slightly elevated above the matboard, creating subtle shadows for a dimensional, museum-style effect.
4-Ply Window Mat – A standard mat thickness providing a crisp, professional border. Perfect for photos, prints, and documents.
8-Ply Window Mat – A thicker, gallery-style mat with a deep beveled edge, adding boldness and elegance to fine art displays.
We use archival matboards that are made from acid-free and lignin-free materials, ensuring that artwork remains protected from discoloration and deterioration over time. These museum-quality mats prevent fading and staining by creating a safe, pH-balanced environment for delicate prints, photographs, and artworks. Choosing archival mats is essential for preserving valuable or sentimental pieces for years to come.
glazing
Glazing is the transparent glass or acrylic layer in a frame that protects artwork from dust, moisture, and damage. It comes in various options, including UV protection and anti-glare finishes, to enhance clarity and preservation.
Types of Glazing
UV-Safe Plexiglass – A lightweight, shatter-resistant acrylic that blocks harmful UV rays to prevent fading and deterioration, making it ideal for delicate artwork and high-traffic areas.
Museum Glass® – Premium, nearly invisible glass with anti-reflective coating and 99% UV protection, providing exceptional clarity while preserving artwork against light damage.
Museum Plexiglass – Combines the benefits of Museum Glass® with the durability of acrylic, offering superior clarity, anti-reflective properties, and 99% UV protection in a lightweight, shatter-resistant form.
SPACERS
Spacers are small strips (typically made of plastic or foam) that create a subtle gap between the glazing and the surface of the artwork or mat. They're especially useful when framing pieces without a window mat or in cases where the artwork shouldn't touch the glazing. We offer spacers in white, clear, and custom options that match your selected mat board.
